Trump’s Ukraine Envoy Expected to Visit Russia This Week for Peace Talks

Mr. Witkoff’s visit will take place “I think next week, Wednesday or Thursday,” the American president told reporters on Sunday evening.

This visit was deemed “important and useful” by the Kremlin on Monday, as relations between Moscow and Washington are experiencing a sudden spike in tensions with Mr. Trump’s deployment of two nuclear submarines on Friday, following an online dispute with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (2008-2012).

This show of force comes as Donald Trump gave Russia last week 10 days, until next Friday, to end the war in Ukraine, under the threat of unspecified new sanctions.

The Russian president has already met with Steve Witkoff several times in Moscow, but Donald Trump’s efforts to restore dialogue with the Kremlin have not borne fruit.
