12,500km with my Curvv EV: Fuss free ownership makes me an EV fan

A charger at home/office is what you need for slow charging, highway charging is quickly getting ubiquitous.

BHPian anurag.somani recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

With EVs evolving at the pace they are, the hottest flavor of last season are going out of fashion as fast as sour milk.

Primary purpose when we picked it last Oct was if it’s better than the gasoline / hybrid options around (trusty Figo diesel had already turned 13) – and boy, did it prove right!

10 months and 12500 km with Curvv.EV; split evenly between city & highway – effortless, fun, uber-reliable, surprisingly power-efficient and comfy for 4! (5th strictly unwelcome)

We have a fantastic manual diesel Ecosport for reference – here are the little things that add up:

  • Effortless driving in city-traffic; often missed evening workouts earlier on bad traffic days, not anymore – the traffic may eat-up hrs, but not your energy!
  • Excellent music system.
  • Fantastic 360° camera & alerts : real boon in traffic/parking.
  • Paddle-shifters for regen level: you’ll brake a lot less!
  • Fab suspension.
  • 120 kmph on Samruddhi Mahamarg – piece of cake -and with cruise control you’re even more likely to sleep!(miss the thrill/revs of ecosport to build up speed though).
  • Darting through traffic – a gentle push on pedal would get it done.
  • Premium feel inside/out! Turns heads and pulls hearts.
  • Mid / Screens are top-notch and plenty of usable information.
  • *Repeat-alert*: Uber-reliable! Have a Tata EV specific service center where it went for the routine service – as fuss-free as it gets!

After 2 lakh km+ of driving over the last 20 yrs; I’ve my priorities sorted – not the fastest or the biggest car but one where I can tap power easily and is sized right for both city & highways. Think the Curvv.EV fits in neatly in there.

On range/charging etc. – gives ~390 in summers , ~425 in monsoons / winter (ref: Mumbai)

Caveat: Range dropped like a rock on Samruddhi at 120 kmph (~280 km) – want to drive in triple digits with an EV all day: plan more charging breaks!

Range anxiety is over-rated, enough and more charging options within 450 kms of Mumbai in all directions (haven’t travelled beyond that distance yet) and plenty of fast chargers popping-up! 30 min is a reasonable breakfast/lunch break – so a 70 kwh charging support is enough for all practical purposes.

A charger at home/office is what you need for slow charging, highway charging is quickly getting ubiquitous.

EVs are evolving fast, so there will always be something significantly better next year. And resale prices would keep falling like a rock.

But for folks who keep their cars long and are contemplating between ICE / EVs, IMO with the current crop of cars; we’re already at inflection point!

For the same car, EVs run better, smoother, are less tiring, need lesser maintenance, more reliable and are incredibly inexpensive per km.

And for all the brickbats Tata gets for their past failures , their current crop of EVs are rock-solid reliable!
